Help Us, Help You

Help Us, Help You! Isn't that great? I love it. No, I am not crazy. That is the way the world works, no? Yes, it is. The circle of life, we all have to help each other and then in return we are helping ourself.

I would like for you to help someone today, whether it be something as simple as being polite-opening the door, carrying a bag, or helping out at work. Everything rolls down to job security. Honestly, take a moment to think about that. If the people you work with are not happy with your performance or how you are, are they going to say something nice or good about you? Not likely. Negativity goes a long way. Word of mouth still proves affective, along with the internet-Twitter, Facebook, etc.

All and all, my point is help others, not just yourself. We would like for you to help us by attending our job fair in Charlotte at the Sheraton Airport Hotel next Tuesday, May 4th between 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you have the time to attend, a few minutes to spare, drop by-we would love to see you there.

You can expect to speak with recruiters that are currently hiring, looking for someone-maybe you-to fill one of their positions. Don't miss the opportunity that could land you your job.

Information about the job fair can be found at EmploymentGuide.com under Job Fairs. Additional information is provided below.

We look forward to seeing you at the job fair! Charlotte Sheraton Airport Hotel-May 4th.

Charlotte Job Fair ~ Testimonials

We're getting such great feedback from our job fair from this week that I wanted to share! This event was well attended by job seekers and recruiters alike! We also had a laptop station where we allowed people to search and apply for jobs on EmploymentGuide.com, sign up for Job Alerts and apply online to the companies in attendance right there.

This is from a company recruiting for fast food/restaurant candidates:

The job fair was EXCELLENT. I had over 75 applicants and are actually making an offer to 25. We have not had time to review and schedule interviews for the rest. Thank you so much.

And from a staffing agency that was looking for various positions:

I was VERY happy. I got about 30 resumes for Gastonia (Two of which we have put to work), 40 for University, 20 for Uptown, One for Rock Hill and one for Monroe. Most of them seem like good prospects. I thought you did an outstanding job AND lunch was great.

So if you weren't a company that participated in our event, then you missed out on a great set of candidates. Don't worry about it though, we've got plenty of events in Charlotte throughout the year. Our next job fair in Charlotte is in April and we have job fair events outside of the Charlotte area in just about every metro area in the U.S. Send us an email if you're interested in participating in any of our events.

Career Fair to Match Older Workers and Jobs

A Mature Worker Career Fair will take place Tuesday, September 18th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel, 3115 Scott Futrell Dr, Charlotte NC 28208 (I-85 @ Billy Graham Pkwy). The AARP Foundation has collaborated with The Charlotte Employment Guide to match prospective job seekers with jobs. Mature-worker friendly companies will be available to talk with applicants at the job fair.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the share of the labor force ageed 55 and older, currently at 17 percent, is rising rapidly and by 2020 it is projected to be nearly 24 percent.
The graying of the labor force can be attributed to many factors including longer life expectancy, the enactment of age discrimination laws and the significant increases in healthcare cost, necessitating more income later in life.

Keeping those workers employed also makes good business sense. A report prepared for AARP by Towers Perrin, The Business Case for Workers Age 50+, found that older workers are more motivated to exceed expectations on the job than their younger counterparts. They also bring experience, dedication, focus, stability and enhanced knowledge to their work.

Evelyn Issa, staffing manager over national Hiring Partnerships for Home Depot agrees. “Mature workers bring not only solid work experience to the job, but they also have a lower rate of attrition and a strong work ethic,” she said.

“Many of our older workers are enjoying retirement but want a part-time job where they can interact with people and use the skills they’ve developed. To attract and retain them, Home Depot offers part-time, flexible schedules and health benefits and a 401k plan. We believe this gives us a significant competitive advantage,” continued Issa.

To find out more about how you can participate as a job seeker or as an employer at the Employ The Older Workers Diversity Job Fair, Tuesday, September 18th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. contact the Employment Guide at 877-676-0051 ext. 222
